After looking around for a couple of months (and spending a lot of time reading forum posts) today I actually bought my first Volvo, a black 2015(64) V60 R-Design Lux Nav D4 manual.

Its an ex-leasehire that I bought at an auction, so it's a bit 'raw' and needing the tidying up that a dealer would normally give it before putting it on sale. In particular it has a number of quite noticeable scratches in various places that seem to have been inflicted by a dull object, they look bad but aren't actually through the top coat... is there any recommendations for how I should attempt to remedy these?

The wheels (18", diamond cut, two-tone) are pretty bad with extensive kerbing and significant corrosion. Is there a recommended place to have these refurbished?

The tailgate release does not function, from either a remote fob or the dash button. But it opens fine using the tailgate catch. Is this a common fault?

TIA
Jon

The tailgate release button on the remote & dash needs to be held down for a few seconds before the release operates -think this is so you don't accidentally release the tailgate

The tailgate doesn't actually release on the V60 using the buttons, only unlock. So you still have to press the rubber pad under the handle to release it.

So the dash button unlocks the tailgate after everything's been locked by the 'auto lock when driving' feature and the key fob unlocks the tailgate, leaving the doors locked, when parked up.

Ah, I've just been out and had a play and it's working as you describe... I was expecting it to pop open!

Next concern, the coolant low warning message came on a few times while the engine was cold, but not after she'd warmed up. No sign of coolant spillage on the ground, so I'll stick some water in and see how it goes. It was serviced by Volvo in February, so it must have been ok then...

The key fob button is also sometimes reluctant to operate if you are too close to the boot.

Coolant often expands as it gets hotter. So the level might go up when hot and lower when colder......

Of course, but are you saying that it's normal for a Volvo to give low coolant warnings when cold? Do Volvo systems not give sufficient tolerance to account for the thermal expansion/contraction?

I added ~250cc to the coolant yesterday (to bring it up to 'max' when cold) and it seemed OK this morning. I'm just worried about whether this may have been an early warning of a coolant leak. Later yesterday I drove around 25 miles and parked in the road. After leaving the car for around an hour I found a small damp patch but it didn't smell so I assumed it was condensate from the aircon. When I got home the level was a tad over 'max'.
