Is access to the compressor easy enough through the driver's side wheel arch? I am aware there is a shim kit, plus there is the "DIY" kit on the You Tube link posted earlier today.

Just done a quick search on You Tube. Access looks pretty easy through the wheel arch. I see a day of tinkering coming up...

Cancelled the AC bloke for now. Will check the gap in the compressor clutch and sort that issue first. Might not actually cost me a penny. I hope!

Now we have had our mini heatwave, I can confirm that the shims have worked a treat. The clutch was giving up at around 22 to 23 degrees C and since the shims were added the AC has worked brilliantly at around 33 to 36 degrees C. Result!

Might ring the AC repair bloke who was extremely doubtful of the idea.
