You need to speak to your dealer who will check the warranty position and policy action if you have one , against your car .. it wont be cheap its about 3 hours labour as BOTH sides have to be modified to cure this and prevent it happening in the future..
Its unlikely the lock itself was faulty ..

External air temperature
I have a 2005 s40 with 40k miles.
I suffered from the same problem of intermittent errors in the displayed external temp, with no effect on the internal heating. It came /comes from the left-hand (drivers - for us froggies) door connector. I have a damaged connector from a roll onto the side accident that Volvo have never managed to replace (apparently they could never get the right reference for the part, it was subsequently change in later model years). Since the last time they took the door apart and replaced the rubber window liner, the temperature display has not played-up. |

A little update, had my car in for a service on Tuesday and got the sensor checked. Garage says it the sensor itself that is faulty and needs replaced. Now having a battle with the warranty company that say it isn't covered forgot to ask how much the part was as I'll replace it myself if no joy with the warranty co.
Keep you posted Alan Just as an aside mine was reading -22 degrees the day it went in, is that a record, how low can you go????? |

Only managed -16 so far
...but given the money I've spent on recent repairs, I'm in no hurry to fork out for a new sensor or 3 hours labour so let's see if I can beat your record by christmas!
Please do let me know how much the sensor is although I am worried that my problem could be more in depth as my internal temp is definitely affected (as stated previously I get warm air when climate is on cool and temp gauge is reading -16c) |

My three-year-old S40 is going in for a service tomorrow and I've got the same problem with the ambient temperature readout. Mine reads anything from actual temperature to -40c, as well as three little dashes. I'm hoping it's just the sensor but I'll post the outcome in a day or two.

Thanks. I'd really appreciate that as I am still having the same problems with mine.

hmmmm there is a recall where they replace all of the door wiring (mine had it done at last service) could it be linked to this issue?
