So, maybe I was lucky, but the bushes breezed out of the eBay wishbones with a big vice and a 17mm socket to push the mounting bracket all the way through.

We have an Aga, and it is a godsend for stripping and cleaning old parts.
Just have to be careful not to let Mrs H find out until the job is done.

I wrapped both bush/brackets in tinfoil, carefully sealing all joints.
They went in the top oven overnight, and by 9am they were nicely done.

The rubber had carbonised, and crumbled off the bracket
There was no smell, and no mess - not a single whiff.
This should work just as well in a gas or electric oven !

A quick wire brush and M12 x 1.5 tap to clean out the threads, good as new.
I did a half/half to show the difference.

Bushes on order from Powerflex, next job is to dremel out the old bush casing which remains in the wishbone.

Stoopid question alert!!

How do you check if these bushes are knackered?

Do they come apart and crack up or something? Or do you check them with a bar of some description?

They are hydraulic. When they burst you will find a sticky, waxy deposit round the bush.

Hang on a minute, am I posting this on the right forum? ?)

I think I'd better stop before we get in trouble . . .

Haha! Ha! Is that the medical or mechanical response?!!

Ok - I'll look for some cracking up, some play and some discharge... Noticed my V70 isn't going in a straight line too well at the moment.

Please could I ask what you charge? I would want to buy a couple wishbones then send you the replacements once I'd swapped them over - would you be happy with that?

If you are interested in a discount on Powerflex bushes, take a look at this separate thread.
