New owner with a few questions!
Hi all,
I’m the happy owner of a 2011 XC70 D5 AWD SE Lux, and am really pleased so far, it being my first jump into Volvo ownership. Still getting used to the car’s infotainment system, I’m hoping you guys will be able to help answer a few questions! Firstly, I have the car set to auto lock when driving away, however it seems to deadlock all but the driver’s door, so when we stop, only I can get out and no other passengers can unless I unlock the car using the key or the switch on the door; is this normal? I’ve never seen this in a car before, and it doesn’t feel right. It has the facelift dash with the inbuilt screen, and the dealer updated to the latest maps (and I guess software, as it had never been updated when I test drove it); can you store addresses, as I can’t seem to find a way to do this? Is there an easy way to cancel route guidance, rather than having to drill own into itinerary, edit route, cancel? That seems very long-winded, especially after coming from recent use of BMW idrive & Mercedes COMAND! Now this could just be me, but the stereo, and especially the iPod USB input sounds a bit quiet... My previous Merc had the amazing Harman/Kardon system, and I’m pleasantly surprised at how good the standard system in the XC is, but I seem to be running it close to full tilt! What bulbs are used in the active bending (utterly brilliant!) xenon lights? One’s a slightly different colour and they’re not as bright as I’ve experienced with xenons before, so guess they’re on their way out. The manual says they need to be replaced by a dealer...erm, no, I’m sure I can do that myself! It’s fitted with Pirelli Scorpion Verde All-Seasons, and they’re all in excellent condition, but does anybody have any other recommendations? I used to use Michelin Cross Climates on my old 5 Series in the winter, and was very pleased with them. Has anybody tried the SUV version on the XC70? And finally, it’s on 93k with full main dealer history, the previous owner bought it when it was only 5 months old, and the annual mileage has been pretty consistent over the years. It’s a bit tatty (in my mind, not my girlfriend’s - “it’s a used car!”) has had some paint, but looks straight and honest, with no evidence of towbar being fitted, and the diamond cut alloys are corroded, but hardly kerbed, so it looks like it’s just been used as a very competent tool by the previous owner. The Volvo independent I bought it from has just serviced it, along with replacing trailing arm bushes, discs & pads, and, after I took it back due to the steering wheel rocking of it’s own accord when off-centre (which seems to be a ‘known’ issue), they replaced the power steering pump, reservoir & rack! As far as I’m aware, all the parts listed above are genuine Volvo. I know the timing belt will be due at the next service, but is there anything else I should be looking out for at this age/mileage? I’ve always been a preventative maintenance person, so will get interim oil changes done as I do a mix of city and motorway driving, and whether it’s worth it or not, I always run our cars on BP Ultimate. Many thanks in advance, Nick Last edited by Cubbington; Dec 3rd, 2017 at 07:49. |
