Default Why the tube on washer jets?

Just bought a new washer jet and it comes with a 7cm piece of rubber tube attached.

When removing the old one I previously pulled the rubber tube off the jet itself as visible through the under bonnet cutout, and unclipped the jet from the top bonnet skin.

The short length of tube on the new jet implies a joint might be present somewhere inside the bonnet that I can't easily see - guessing it might exist to save straining the jet moulding itself????? Is this so? or is the short piece of tube sold as part of the new jet - just for throwing away?

It is the genuine Volvo part (30655606), and all other references to this part I can find also show a short length of tube attached.

Getting the tube off the old jet was a struggle, the new tube seems equally well attached to the new jet - and I don't want to risk breaking the new jet if removing the tube from the jet is unnecessary.

The small length of tube should attach to the non return valve, there is one on each jet

so are you suggesting there is a joint in this feed pipe (being the jet side of the non return valve) thats positioned neatly out of sight?

I just had a feel and I think there is - too cold to do anything about it right now.

Job done.

Non return valve located and far too difficult to get at so decided to sacrifice the short length of tube supplied on the new jet and just connect the existing tube to the new jet. Even removing the tube from the new jet threatened to break the jet - so tight was it that I had to scalpel it off.

Note: FRF is not cheaper than main dealer when discount is less than postage
