My dealer placed an order with Volvo for EGR valve and cooler on 29.01.2015 and still not heard from them regarding its arrival with them. Good job the car is still able to function as there would be a lot of VEA D4's parked-up waiting for parts.

I've also noticed a drop in MPG lately but no loss of power or performance.

As yesterday was my very first visit to any forum so I was amazed at the level of info available, and just wonder whether dealers read them ?
This morning I received a call to say that the EGR valve and cooler was now in stock and they would collect the car on Monday morning.
I queried why two components and was told that it is a "Volvo" decision to change both.

Some do, most do not. They would all be better if they did as it would give them better product knowledge. One forum I used to be on that put forward a thoery of plausible deniability. If the salesmen did not know a new model was coming out, if they did not know that a common fault was occurring, if they did not know that real mpg was a fraction of the claimed figure etc. then they can sit in front of a customer with a clear conscience and give their poor quality sales patter. Going on a forum would enlighten them and mean they would have to knowingly lie. Fine for some, harder for others. The more I speak to sales staff in dealers the more I agree with this theory.

100% agree - my dealership's Sales Manager states that his team have to sell what is available TODAY & until Volvo officially tell them what will be available TOMORROW they are not interested as you cannot sell it NOW.
This theory applies across all sales markets - it is only us enlightened bodies that research and are able to judge when to buy...........!!

Hi craig

I bought my car new last July and it has been back to dealership five times for repair re this same fault. The first time was three months after I bought it .In Dec 2014 had a once and all fix as per Volvo instructions, however last week back in again. The garage have replaced the unit again. I have been told that there is an issue between the software and the unit which can cause sudden loss of power as happened to me on A1M. Thankfully late at night and little traffic about. I am currently waiting to hear from Volvo as I have made formal complaint. The car has now done 12,100 miles.

Thanks -- will be interesting to see what Volvo say. From various posts on here, it seems that Volvo's original advice was to remove the EGR and cooler, and clean it. Your dealer probably did this when the fault first happened to you.

Then in Nov / Dec 2014 they realised the components were faulty and started replacing them. Then in January, Volvo issued a revised EGR valve ... from your timeline, it looks like you've been unlucky enough to have had your EGR problems just before Volvo sorted out the latest fix each time ...

Someone earlier asked the question about whether the check engine light & tortoise were having an impact on mpg?

Well having collected mine from the dealer I've been on some long trips to find out. So far the returns have been 52.0mpg, 58.4mpg, 50.1mpg, 58.6mpg, 55.1mpg, 54.1mpg, 60.1mpg, 55.0mpg and 61.1mpg. And the first 4 of those were through yesterday's torrential rain and driving gales, so after a month or two of low 40s, things do appear to have improved somewhat.

Good lord, it takes me at least three weeks to burn a tank of diesel but you've already done 36 fill-ups! What's your annual mileage, Andy?
