Oil. S/c/v70
Well, back to v70 ownership I go, still keeping hold of a 940. The v70 is now my old mans choice, he didn't like my diesel.
Question... I buy 5w30 mb229.51 oil, fully synthetic from merc, in 20 litre boxes for the chrysler (it's dirt cheap, £69). It can be used for petrols so, can it be used in the v70? It's a 2.5 10v non turbo. |

What are the ACEA specs of that oil? If it meets A3/B4 then you can use it. 5W30 will be a bit thinner than most would use on here (including me), but it's within the viscosity specs.

Also, technically, if its A3/B4 then it behaves essentially the same in bearings/journals/under pressure whether it is 30 or 40, as the hths value is similar.
5w30, 5w40, etc are static viscosities which dont represent how the oil behaves where critical. This is why an A5/B5 oil isnt suitable in place of an A3/B4 even if they are both, say, 5w30 for example, as they behave differently where it matters. So as said, the crucial factor is A3/B4, though a 0w40/5w40/10w40 is preferable. iirc 229.51 is usually a C spec oil. |
