Default 240DL Engine Swap

Hi all

This may upset some members but can anyone direct me to someone who can carry out an engine conversion on my 1983 240DL. Looking at fitting in a
1JZGTE or RB25DET which are straight sixes and looking in the engine bay i reckon they would fit. If not a four cylinder 3SGE vvti or rev 3SGTE. Other ideas welcomed.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

why would you want to put " something else " in there ? What about the Volvo V6 from a 260 ?
My ultimate engine for a 240 would be a volvo D5 with a M90 gearbox

Thumbs up

Yes the nissan straight six engines do fit into a 240. I have a nissan LD28 engine in mine which is a straight six diesel engine.

volvo were going to have a V8 option, hence the canted angle of the 4 thats in the 240. A lot of banger racers put big Vs into 240s. Different option entirely, but I noticed a perkins diesel with gearbox that had come out of a 240 (?) for sale in the latest VOC Driver.

There's at least one book on Amazon on how to put a Chevy small block in your 240. An easy way to got 500+ BHP

My daily drivers are 300zx TT, a heavily tuned Supra Turbo and an MR2 turbo, but my god nothing comes close to the Volvo in getting the arse end out even with its paltry power. If i can get a cheap 300hp powerplant in it, that would be great.

I'm not sure that's true, my understanding is the engine was tilted to provide more room for the inlet manifold/injection system and brake servo on LHD cars.

Getting someone else to fit you a completely different engine/gearbox combination into your 240 won't be cheap. If you want cheap, fit a turbo engine/M90 gearbox from a late model 940.

^^^ best bang for your buck, and there's loads of performance bits to pep it up if you don't mind importing them from the states or sweden. I think the power record for the redblock engine is somewhere north of 1200 horsies.

Oh, and something that's not common knowledge - late 940s come with an Eaton G80 locking diff as standard, and it can be fitted into a 240 axle. Great for those wanting to go sideways
