Cambelt change on 2015 D4
Advice please. My D4 is almost 10 (and has been almost trouble-free) but will soon need a new cambelt, aux belt and tensioner. My uncertainty is whether to get it done by the agent or by the local family garage who have always treated us well.
I know that Volvo dealers have a special tool to keep the camshafts in exact timing alignment. Other garages won't have the tool but probably have the competence to manage without one. Is it that tricky without the tool, and is the garage likely to need more hours to do it than the agent as they are less familiar with the D4? If the local garage does it I'd ask them to do it with Volvo parts (having read too much here about pattern parts). Clearly the local garage would be cheaper, but do you foresee any risks? Thanks. |

I would assume that yours is the 2.0 vea if its a D4, if it is then the Cambelt is a straight forward job .
The crank and camshaft sprockets have marks to line them up with . The HPFP needs to be timed and a 6mm pin is used The crank pulley is very tight and if yours is an auto then retorquing can be challenging , I bought a crank hold tool when I did mine If your local garage is any good then they should not have any problems , they should be able to get any info that they need online

If you trust the garage and you’ve used them in the past, I’d bring it there. Save yourself some money and support a local business in the process!

What have you been quoted for the work? Mine is coming up 10 in September so will need same work, got an indicative quote yesterday of £550, but apparently parts could well be more expensive come September..

I'll be getting quotes off independent in Leeds and York too. It's more expensive than I thought it'd be.. |

One consideration might be, how long do you intend to keep the car ?
If for the forseeable future (or longer), just spend the money and do it right with a good garage and OE parts (IMHO!). Otherwise it might depend upon what sort of a concience you have ! |

Just had the cambelt and auxiliary belt & tensioner replaced at main dealer. Including oil change/filters service was £950. D4 is 10 years old and have had it since new. Service without belts was £230, so belts worked out at just over £700.
