Default Sat nav - avoiding part of a route/diverting manually

I think the answer to this is no...but is it possible to avoid only part of a route in the sat nav?

I think I found how to choose a whole alternative (one of three), but have found myself wanting to avoid part of a route a couple of times and not being able to

I spent some time trying to avoid the Paris Périphérique, because a French relative told me that there was a route south, that avoided it, but no matter what I tried, I couldn’t find a way to do it.

As an aside from the question, while driving in France, I found the Sat Nav to be superb, in guiding me through rural France. By comparison, an up to date Tom Tom, would regularly, select routes that, in one case, took us through a 1.5m wide tunnel, whereas, the Volvo Sat Nav always selected the more comfortable route.

Does the vehicle not respond to the steering wheel? Mine does. It then reroutes using the road chosen. Perhaps not immediately, but it will, as soon as it decides that you are serious.

Apart from which, you can add a ‘waypoint’ to the selected route map.

On my previous Volvo V60, I could select, avoid driving through Liege in Belgium.
With Sensus, I have had to use a waypoint on a road that avoids driving through Liege.

I did this with Here.com by selecting a point on the road, then Send to Car.
Once in the sat nav Library, I changed the name (E25) to Liege.
I have used this waypoint numerous times when driving to and from Luxembourg and Ijmuiden in the Netherlands.

mind you, sometimes the sat nav reroutes you without warning (or I may have missed it) - and I wondered why it was taking me the less than best route - so I kept on going what I thought was best until I hit a half hour traffic jam! I knew then what it had been trying to do!

I think (but not sure) there is a setting for rerouting: no - ask - auto.

Without the need for sarcasm I find that if I drive route enough times the SatNav 'remembers' that is my preference. So my route home from work now defaults to the cross country rather than the main roads that it used to do.

But equally you can use the detour button

https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/attac...1&d=1566682939

This then provides the option of a short detour. That might work.

This. Mind you sometime it can be stubborn to follow the initial route..
