S60 D2 Dealer Reused Timing Belt
Good Morning!
My MY17 S60 D2 came back from the dealer this week after having an oil leak, the dealer fixed this under warranty but informed me after that the timing belt was removed and the same belt was reused after. Is this normal practice, it is my understanding that reusing a belt significantly reduces its life and Volvo won't cover this if it becomes an issue later. |

If the belt was clean, free from oil contamination and showed no wear then i can see why they refused it. Anyone else would have just put a new belt on... |

Its probably ok to reuse the belt if they inspected it and it's in good condition. But it's kind of mind boggling they didn't change the belt when it was off, belt cant be much money, so very surprising they didn't change it, but penny pinching dealer so probably shouldn't be surprised lols

I wonder how many are not changed but charged for if they look in good condition.

Factually the warranty funding from Volvo will cover the new parts and the removal/refitting of those to facilitate the installation. It's never going to cover "service" or "consumable" items, unless they are faulty.
However, depending on the mileage and when the change falls due - I would have expected the dealer to contact you and suggest that the belt is replaced if you paid for the parts.

I think it would have been in good condition the car only has 24k, but still I would have paid for the change if they called me. No to mention the 2 oil leaks I’ve had in this car at 18 months old.
