Default Flapping mirror glass

MY 10 XC70 today had the mirror glass on nearside doormirror Flapping at motorway speeds.

Found glass to of become unbounded from the back of the motor attachment and only held on by a strip of glue along the top. Have araldite it back on but don't expect longevity so will be ordering new on Monday.

Question is has anyone else experienced this problem?

Paul.

Yep, except mine fell off and smashed when Mrs T shut the passenger door. Very thin mirror glass stuck to plastic back which has the heating element stuck to it also.

I bought a pattern mirror on e-bay for about £12 - it was a good the the original and all of the back had adhesive on. I think Volvo only supply the plastic back, heater and mirror as an assembly and it's north of £60.

Remember the XC70 has different (larger) mirrors than the V70....

Thank you Tatton, the Ford influence strikes again then it would seem.

Yes aware the xc is a bigger mirror thanks, searching eBay and cannot find P3 type, plenty of P2 and xc 60/90 but a derth of xc70.
Last one I baught for off side after it got hit off by oncoming driver cost £64+vat so fully expect it to be expensive. Hopefully the araldite holds for a bit but given the substructure probably tigerseal would of been better pity my opend tube had gone off and that's £9 a tube so expensive for the little it would of taken.

Mine gave up too during our holiday, really wobbly and thought someone had damaged the assembly only to fing the mirror looes. Used doubles sided number plate tape to stick it on but have just realised this will probably affect the heater in the winter. Does the replacment stock well to the 'rubbery' surface left behind or do I have to try to scrape all that off?

I had this also on the passenger side. I just used some `Gorilla glue` and restuck the original glass back onto the backing plate.
That was about 2 months ago and so far its still holding tight.

I had not realised that 2007 to 2013 the xc70 mirrors are the same as the xc90. Found one on eBay for £14.99 which was the whole unit as supplied by Volvo, glass, heater and mounting to motor. It's on order so will see A how long the araldite lasts and B what sort of quality the replacement is. Will keep it in the car for when the original repairers gives out, with my luck it will be when I'm away from home.

Replacement mirror arrived today, seems a good quality with all the bits, bargain at £14.99

Smile mirror mirror on the volvo

I had a similar thing on an 07 c30, you could notice a bit of wobble in the pass door mirror when driving at speed, the mirror must have been barely holding on (must have fallen off), totally agree on the fordism quality effect...got another heated one off the bay, and was a nice easy fix, i think the main problem area is finding the correct shape mirror as there are usually several diferent ones over the years...
