Data for UK registered vehcles
Hi for vehicles in the UK it is possible to search for the number that have a license to drive on the road (MOT) through the website https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/
a search for Volvo 1800 for 2018 gives; 1800E 51 1800ES 45 1800 ES Auto 2 1800S 152 P1800 110 With the recent change in the UK law which means that vehicles older than 40 years (which meet certain criteria) no longer require an MOT this this data will be more difficult to get. Looking at the data by year (see attached picture) the number of UK cars registered seems to be pretty stable over the last 17 years. addendum The figures I quoted are for licensed (MOT) vehicles for those SORN'd (Statutory Off Road Notification) there is separate data which can bee seen when a particular model is selected on the website https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/ for example Volvo 1800S in 2018 there were 152 MOT'd and 96 SORN'd giving a total of 248. That is interesting. 360 with license to drive on the road compared to my figure of 548 that "looks roadworthy" in UK. So 188 cars that looks ok do not have a valid MOT. Thank you for the link I didn't know about that website.

In relation to the Polish part of the list, these are cars imported in the last 25 years mainly from the USA (some in a state beyond reasonable restoration). I heard only one P1800 purchased as a new one in the 60's, but it can be an urban legend as the cars behind the iron curtain were extremely expensive. I know most cars from the list and at least 4-5 which there are not, some may be on the list for USA. My P1800 is given as driving in Sweden - entered in the list in 2015 despite being in Poland since 2010

Dave,
Thanks for the heads up to those who have not visited the 'How many left' website for the UK. I think the split between P1800 and 1800S cars is not accurate. When my 1800S was first registered the model was quoted by the dealer as P1800, and the chassis number was also incorrectly quoted; The dealer used the Volvo model series number! I got DVLA to correct the chassis number a few years ago as this came up as an anomaly on my MOT certificate. DVLA would not change the model number from 1800S to P1800. The 'How many left' website shows an remarkably high number of surviving P1800 (Jensen) cars in the UK. Hence my comment above..... |

Is your 1800 placed in the right category in the chassis database?
https://volvo1800pictures.com/PHPMaker/1800/index.php Enter the chassis number, click on the magnifying glass to the left and check at the bottom on the page that comes up for -Looks roadworthy -Not roadworthy -Scrapped -Unknown status Send me a mail karl@volvo1800pictures.com if you think it should be changed This will help the to keep the "1800 remaining in the world" statistics as accurate as possible http://volvo1800pictures.com/product...1800_world.php |

There are many cars with "unknown state" in Great Britain in the 1800 database.
I have therefore decided to check status on the DVLA page. -"Tax paid" will be "Looks roadworthy" -"Tax not paid" and SORN "Not roadworthy" But what about registration numbers not found or on another car. ? Do you think they are -scrapped? -registered again with new number ? -Exported ? Thank you for any help or comment karl eric https://volvo1800pictures.com/PHPMaker/1800/index.php |

There are thousands and thousands of vehicles that still exist in the UK that do not have the SORN status (or a valid MOT). If you find any of these vehicles they could be anything from really nice well kept museum quality examples to just a box of bits. To the best of my knowledge the DVLA don't publish a register / database of vehicles that have been scrapped. Even if a vehicle has been officially scrapped that also (unfortunately in some cases) does not mean it still does not exist (!). In the best situation a vehicle with scrapped status could still exist (in unregistered limbo) because an insurance company decided it was "uneconomical to repair" - they therefore might have scrapped the car but the owner may have bought it back / kept the vehicle to repair. I knew someone who was always crashing his car - the insurance company would right it off - he'd buy it back and weld some more junk on it and get it back on the road again - I think he did this about three times until he had a really big accident. Cars - "bangers" - at a certain stage in their life cycles are not considered to be valuable - there might be a few P1800s that were "uneconomical to repair" 30 years ago that now would be looked at in a different light.
