Default MPG on a T4

what should be the Average mpg on a t4? my 97 v40 t4 only seems to do about 22 mpg. when i reset it its starts high then drops back down to about 22 mpg and dont really seem to move off that number.

the only 2 mods i have at the mo is dump valve and an air filter, its running on std boost at the mo.

has anyone else had this trouble?

cheers ross

I get between 20 - 22 mpg have reset it and comes back about the same. I mainly do very short journeys so car is not properly warmed up. I have air filter, exhaust done on mine.

I did changed my maf, front & rear lambda when I had my boost issue and didn't make much of a difference about 1 or 2 mpg extra after that.

Seems to be a thirsty car

I have the 2 worst driving styles for mpg

I'm either doing the very short cold journeys or out a proper drive and driving it like a T4 should be hammering it everywhere lol

Average short journeys and around town I am getting 20 - 22 mpg but motorway runs it will do do 34 - 36 mpg with cruise on at 70mph!

I get a steady 28.6mpg from my 2003 V40 T4 which includes a 14 mile trip each way to work consisting of pure country roads with long straights, 10mins sat in nose to tail traffic each day and a heavy right foot to overtake all the tractors in the way.

On a run to Huddersfield and back to Scarborough I managed to average 35mpg at 70mph ands thats without any of this fancy cruise malarkyand on a manual transmission.

If you're only in town and stop start, short distance and not fully warmed up, that is probably about right. Take it on a run once fully warmed and see what it gets. As said previously and as I've managed on runs down South, mid 30's plus is quite easily achievable, driving sensibly. You don't need to be constantly on boost or brakes on a motorway to maintain a reasonable average speed...

Mine has been remapped and a full exhaust and race cat and it does 37.8 on a run. at a steady 80 mph.
But on short journeys and around town I get 20-23 and mine is an auto

I get mid-top 30's from mine on a decent, long-distance motorway based trip. Normal mixed driving varies from about 29 to 32, depending on how much has been in town etc.

That's a standard, 2003 T4 with about 74K on the clock.
