I never had a big top-up like that before so I don't know.
I don't anticipate a hastened death. It tests strong but is 7 years old.

Ha...years ago, a friend bought a Toyota pick-up (not a HiLux) from a pal of hers. One of the battery's two cell covers was under a hold-down and only 3 of the cells saw service.

The 3 neglected cells resembled the view up a mushrooms skirt and took >1l of DI water.
That battery died soon thereafter.

A few small bits...

Correctly fitted the auxiliary belt tensioner idler pulley...without the protective cap that the previous owner had installed as a washer!

Used some butyl tape to re-seal the rear door now that I've replaced the lock. I do love the ingenious little push-pin style trim clips Volvo used around the door card. Very neat.

Lubed up all hinges and locks.

Replaced a blown fig light bulb. Whoever designed the lighting system on this car must have hated mechanics!

Took it for a drive and chucked in some injector cleaner.

Onwards!

Replaced my halogen headlights for a pair of good used Xenons.

Bumper off, lights off...not too hard and only took a couple of hours. Installed all new bulbs when the lights were off the car.

(As I said on previous threads I created, the car had halogens on when I bought it rather than Xenons... won't make that mistake again! The annoying 'headlight service required' message has gone and the lights go up and down via the motors as they should).

Lights 'only' cost £177 for the pair as well!

Where did you find them? Have you got any details on what is needed to do the swap?

Might be worth clarifying what you have and what you want to change to

Because the way I read it the (previous owners?) attempt was unsuccessful and has now changed back to original

eBay. Been looking for a pair for ages at the right price... set up lots of search alerts.

If your car already has Xenons then it's a straight swap (make sure you get the correct year lights to avoid issues with wiring plugs etc.).

Fitting: lots of guides already on here if you do a search, but put simply: torx 25 in each wheel arch, few clips on the bonnet near the headlights, 2 13mm bolts on the front bumper under trim clips.

Remove the bonnet (make sure you've removed the headlight wipers if fitted), lower the bonnet to the ground (if you're lucky you won't have to remove washer pipes and fog light wiring), 4 10 mm bolts hold the headlights in.

Remove these and swap the units over. Put new bulbs in before you fit the new headlights as it's MUCH easier to do with decent access.

Put every thing back together with a bit of fiddling to get the bumper alignment correct and you're done.

Spot on.

Lights were 'ok' but I wan't happy with them. I could live with the service message if the lights were perfect in other regards, but I like my cars to be in good order, and I wasn't happy with the previous owners bodge.

  • Replaced the other blown fog light bulb

Started replacing the failing arm rest covering:

The V70 passed its MoT test yesterday.

Enough excitement for one week.
