SHELL HELIX 5w-30 A5/B5
Eurocarparts.com are doing 5ltrs of the recommended A5/B5 Shell Helix oil for £25.99 plus 30% off, making it
£18.19 until Monday. Bargain Use a (Volvo OE) MANN HU719 oil filter off the web for around a £5 and you have a lovely oil change for less than £25. This oil is recommended for my engine - the 185bhp 2008 XC90 2.4 D5 DPF. PLEASE CHECK YOUR OIL SPEC AND FILTER SPEC BEFORE BUYING. I am not responsible for mistakes or any implied suggestions if your engine goes bang. |

Volvo say ONLY 0w/30 in these ! Your 5w/30 OK for pre 2005 D5 though on 12000 mile intervals

Can you use 5W30 A5/B5 in a post 2005? If it's A5/B5 it should be ok?

To the contrary, as posted on the other oil discussion thread by "Oilman", the rep for Opie oils:
Originally Posted by Munro83 View Post Ok so my 2009 v70 2.4d is due for a service, 104k miles, what oil should I be using, 5w30/ 0w40/ 5w40 etc? Castrol or shell helix/ultra? Are they all roughly the same or not? We don't get freezing temperatures anymore. I've used Mobil 1 for years but I'm thinking shell is the way forward? Soooo confusing Hi It needs an ACEA A5/B5 oil, the original spec was 0w-30, but 5w-30 is also fine to use and gives you more to pick from. Any of the 0w-30 or 5w-30 oils via this link are fine to use. http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-803-acea...ngine-oil.aspx (check that later today or tomorrow, some things I've just noticed in the category are being corrected). Cheers Tim ______ Using that info I purchased Ford Formula-F 5w-30 which is a fully synthetic oil that is A5-B5 rated, is a reasonable price (£20 for 5 litres) & is what Ford dealers sell to customers, which is good enough for me

And just to muddy the waters slightly can this spec also be used in the earlier Euro 3 engine too, or must it have only A3/B4?

Also, the manual has a Viscosity chart showing the temperature ranges of different oils. It lists 0w30, 0w40, 5w30 and 5w40. As a layman, this would tell me that any of these oils are suitable - as long as they conform to A5/B5 I would assume.
