V70 Bi-Fuel transplant
I've reposted this from "General"
I have two 2003 Bi-fuel V70s. One is working well in all respects other than switching over to gas. It will very occasionally but only when the weather is very cold and even then will change back to petrol on winding or bumpy roads (but can stay on gas on a motorway!) The other, at 150K miles is quite underused for a Volvo but will fail it's next MOT and probably has too many issues to fix economically. Leaking power steering seals, blown exhaust that has welded hand brake cables to casing (so no hand brake), slight engine oil leak and one or two other minor problems. BUT the gas works perfectly! I was wondering how difficult it would be to change over parts of the LPG system from one to the other. I was hoping that the problem might be caused by the round unit just to the left of the engine block that looks a bit like a regulator(?) and that it could be swapped over without too much difficulty. I can buy gas at 46p/L near where I live so it really does make a big difference! Would be very grateful for any advice on this. |

The unit on the front of the engine block is the distributor, this is the usual cause of issues on the LPG cars, more so the solenoid. Just changing that over will probably fix the issue you have. Will take you about an hour to do.

I second that, reckon it'll be the stepper though. Solenoid failure usually means no running on gas at all. Covered numerous times in this section.

Follow up question
I've decided that work not really for me with my limited skills! I feel that I might end up with two V70s not working.....
Is there somewhere on the LPG bit of the Volvo forum where I can let people know that these cars are available or is that against the rules? |

List it in the P2 for sale section and then post a link to it from LPG forum.

If our diagnosis is correct, and I'm 95% sure it is, this really isn't a hard job. But no fun. PITA to get to. A job that scrapes lumps off your knuckles. The air will be blue, but a big-lad like you? You'll cope.
