Don't forget the wheels with the larger offsets are wider than the steelies - i think the steelies are 5.5J, most alloys are 6.5J so 25mm wider to start with. Split that in half (12.5 - call it 13 to make the figures easy) and add that to the 25mm offset of your steelies - gives you 37mm offset. Also fills the arch better to start with.

Really Dave ? So one of those Volvo wheels with a 43 ET is not going to simply sit further in to the wheel well by 18mm then ? (43 minus 25)
Coupled with the increase in wheel and tyre width its surely going to foul badly, if it even fits at all ? Or have I got this arse first ?

Defintely arse about face! This explains better :

A 1"/25.4mm wider wheel is going to move the centreline of the wheel 12.5mm outwards from the centre line of your original.

Are you saying forget the spacers, just go ahead and fit say a 43/50mm offset wheel (assuming 5 x 108 65.1) straight to the hub, lower the car and drive away ?
I think not.

No, a Volvo wheel with that offset. Even a standard 15" Volvo alloy will give you improvement in ride and handling over the steelies.

Talking of your steelies, what width are they?

Yes, I get that, but then they won't fit without fouling (without spacers).
I'll just go this route...

Thanks for your help.
30mm spacers on the rear and 25mm on the front

Volvo didn't fit spacers with Volvo wheels and don't have fouling problems. Got 15 x 6.5J Volvo alloys on mine from the factory and no problems.

You’ll get 2 sorts of responses when it comes to this sort of question - either “yes you’ll be ok as long as you do your maths properly” or “you will certainly die/be put in prison/kill baby birds if you change from what was OEM on the car”.

I’m in the first camp. I was a complete novice and used the willtheyfit website and the specs of the wheels I was thinking of to make my decision. In the end I’ve got some Citroen C6 steel spare wheels on my car in 17” size. They are a slightly different offset but all I needed was a 5mm spacer at the front and it all works ok. No death, no prison, all the birds are ok, and most importantly the insurance is ok too.

The biggest issue is cost. Not many people ever buy 25mm spacers in 5x108 figment so it’s rare to get them cheaper 2nd hand and decent ones are very expensive new so it can get to be a costly exercise.

If I had my choice again I’d get some Lenso BSX (BBS copies) in 18” size for my 940 but I do love the look of my steelies!

Just had a look at your car and it looks great on those steels.
Do you have a picture of the rear to show the width of the track and how well they fill the arches ?
How did you locate 4 spare C6 wheels, was it just a case of trawling eBay ?
