On a 2017 XC90 the rear caliper slider bolts are a 7 mm hex and the EPB motor securing bolts are 5mm hex size to remove/replace. You can use a torx bit, but if the bolts are very tight you will need to have the correct size allan hex to fit, otherwise risk rounding off!. If you want to remove the EPB motor to manually wind back the caliper when fitting new pads, then you can buy extra long ( 110mm length) 5mm hex allan bits in a 1/4" drive socket on ebay. These easily pass down the side of the EPB motor parallel to the sides and fit perfectly at the correct angle.
There is a kit available from Volvo to replace the EPB sealing O ring (which is revealed when you take it off the caliper), together with the 2 x hex EPB securing bolts. Its not cheap.
When replacing the EPB back onto the caliper make sure you do not have brake debris on the EPB sealing O ring or in its sealing slot, also check the inside of the EPB is clean where the O ring slides in.. the same for the torx motor driver that drives into the caliper, this should also be greased with the correct grease.
Remember to have the EPB brake off and not electronically set for auto function when removing the EPB. Some home DIY on youtube reported errors after replacing the EPB, this might have been because they inadvertently turned the ignition on when the EPB motor was disconnected.

When checking rear pad thickness look ( or try to) at the inner pad ( on caliper piston side) as this wears faster than the outers, there is a wear indicator in the middle of the inner pad ( its a groove) when this has gone its time to replace pads.

Lastly, the front caliper slider bolts are 11mm hex.

Wheel bolt torque is 140 Nm or 103 lb ft/lbs.

Hope the above helps..

Anyone know the thickness of the brake pads when new?

I took the winter wheels off today and noted that the rears were ~6mm thick and the fronts ~7mm.

Their ebay shop is showing delivery dates that contradict that, another one here https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-V...-/274108768251
Is showing normal delivery dates but expect them to be longer.

Sorry to drag update an old post, but found this very useful.

I've got a set of discs and pads on order for my V90.

The pads were changed around 20k, but the car is now o 42k, so needing the discs done as well now.

Wondering if anyone has the specified torque settings for this job ? On older models the slider bolts are around 35nm and the carrier bolts upto 100nm.

Could someone please confirm that the handbrake splines need wound clockwise towards the caliper on each side, so anti-clock wise when looking at the car ?

I've got my handbrake set to apply automatically, so I'll need to disable this first.

I've watched one guide that shows them disconnecting the epb connector, but I've read that this can cause issues after replacement.

Correct they have to be turned clockwise to allow the piston to be pressed back.
