May be a track rod problem, have you hit anything or bumped up a curb.

Funny you should say that , i had the front wheels balanced and the vibration was the same , i took it back and asked if they could balance the rears , the tyre fitter said we never balance rear wheels they don`t need it. I took it to Kwik Fit they said come back in a hour , i returned to find out i had an "out of shape rear tyre" and he had a brand new one ready to fit. I said thanks but no thanks i will sort it later. So i need a new tyre , both rears have plenty of tread on them so i am loathed to buy 2 new tyres but i will have to do pretty soon. Thanks for all the advice much appreciated

Well I have to say that's utter rubbish - every wheel needs balanced! I should have said in my original post - apols for not doing so - that if it's front wheel needing balanced you'll feel the vibration thru the steering wheel, similar to when u have a warped disc. If you have the front wheels balanced, still get vibration, yet feel nothing thru the wheel, the rears are likeliest culprit.

I fully agree with weemark on this one.
Marky4, whichever company told you they never balance rear tyres, never go back to them as they clearly have no idea what they are doing.

I was chasing down a vibration not too long ago and it turned out to be a cracked alloy on the front that needed to be replaced.
