Default 2005 S40 S - Bluetooth or USB Audio?

Hi all, after a year long break from Volvo ownership I decided that enough was enough and I needed some Swede back in my life. I bought a 55 plate S40 1.8 yesterday. It’s the base model - S?

It doesn’t have Bluetooth or an aux port in the armrest. It’s the single CD model with no CD changer.

I’m using an FM transmitter for playing music from Spotify on my phone at the moment but the sound quality is poor and I’d like to explore fitting something to allow me to stream via Bluetooth or USB (not fussy) directly to the car stereo.

When I had my V70 the Grom units were always recommended but a quick foray on their website only showed compatibility for models with a CD Changer. I’ve seen a few others on eBay and Amazon but they are either unavailable or list compatibility for 2006- models. I am very confused! Can anyone shed any light on this or identify a suitable adaptor? Much appreciated, it’s good to be back!

poke the search button
this has cropped up Many many times in the forms of "how can i add/upgrade/change Audio"

net results are
if you dont have USB/aux/bluetooth when you bought the car = FM transmitter
Certain audio spec can have grom units added Some can not,, if yours is a "nope" then as above

Although it seems a little pricey to me!

Thanks chaps, not sure how I missed that eBay one! The Grom would also fit, looked on the official website, so not sure where I was getting a lack of compatibility from either! It’s been a long week...

Hello.

This thread concludes with the bluetooth unit I chose. The unit works well in the front cigarette lighter under the handbrake. The unit is small so good when in place and easily stored when not in use.

It’s funny that you should post that right then, as I was just looking at FM Modulators. Think that’s what I’m going to go for, and get an Amazon Echo Auto to hook up to the 3.5mm. Need to disassemble the dash to see if my car has the FAKRA connector in the headunit or in the boot, fun!

Many thanks

This sounds like the unicorn device that every S40/V50 owner without an aux or Bluetooth input has been looking for. Can it really offer Bluetooth and still allow use of the CD?
