Swirl flap actuator arm fallen off
Hi all. I did a random code check on my 2010 185 d5. It had p2015 stored so I checked swirl flaps and noticed the actuator arm had come off. I've ordered a new one to stick on however am curious as to why the eml did not come on there is no loss of power or mpg. There is no limp mode.
Why should this be and what would happen if I left the arm off? Thanks |

Same thing on mine-2010 200bhp exec- seems to run great with no ill-effects.
40mpg on a run starts first time so I have left it alone. Mentioned it to the MOT man recently he didm't seem bothered either- emission reading was .2 -normal .5 so seems to be OK Cheers, Dave |

Thanks Dave. That's reassuring. I have the Polestar remap on mine and I think the burst of acceleration maybe what's ripping it off. Also have noticed a small oil leak and that may have made it slip. Will clean up and fit new one but not be to upset if it doesn't work

I have same problem. Probably flaps are closed now, and you have power. If they are open, you would feel it with lack of power. I was on the road trip to Italy through mountains and car had like 120 hp, not pulling like 185 ps would uphill. Then I stoped and with hand rotate to other position that part where arm was connected. And with that I closed flaps, allowing boost to build up in intake manifold.
I change 2-3 arms and each disconnected. Then I found solution:
Sorry for my bad english please. If you have question, just ask. Also maybe you need, after repair, to calibrate step motor from flaps. I did in VIDA. Last edited by passenger; Aug 9th, 2022 at 19:08. |

Thanks for the advice and video. Have fitted new arm and appears to be holding for now. I will keep close eye and use your approach if necessary

There is a mod/repair for this issue that involves drilling a hole and using a split pin/cotter pin ... available from Volvo as a kit, but plenty of writeups on the forums ... have a search.

I think that's what passenger is showing us in post #4 - but I couldn't be bothered to watch the whole vid.
