It would be seriously impressive to show up on the school run in a motor car without glass. Perhaps the council social services would be round soon though :-).

Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning...
... so the RB is sold, over the telephone to a very nice sounding Scottish chap from the borders. Better than that, the AW71 gearbox is sold with the motor car for an additional fee. I'm really happy that the RB will be going to a good home. I've offered to help the Scot in getting the motor car and gearbox to him (at his cost, but keeping overheads to a minimum) 270 miles away. At the moment hiring a car trailer near here in Corby looks favourite. In a lengthy discussion the Scot asked whether I might be interested in swapping the gearbox for him before shipping, and so not transporting 80kg of iron to Scotland needlessly; in effect completing the sub-project here before taking the car (with its AW71 transmission) North. There is some merit in the idea in that I've already assembled the parts and tools here to do the job, but clearly some risk as well. I'm mulling the idea over; I'm under no obligation but perhaps I wouldn't mind writing this last chapter in the RB story. :-)

I still have to make a decision about whether to fit the gearbox here for the Scot. I've thought the whole process through and have everything I need, it would perhaps be a nice send-off for the RB to fit that 4 speeder it always deserved. Whilst the motor was out of the car I could change the 4 seals and the cam belt so the Scot would know he was getting a very well sorted out motor car... I'm still mulling it over. :-)

Congratulations on the sale, but Oh Alan, what will we do without your wonderful detailed posts on the RB's progress, hopefully the buyer will appreciate the work you've completed on the vehicle.
At least the RB will probably get more miles under its wheels😀 and let's hope the Scot joins here to continue the updates, if they have not already checked out its past life on these posts. On the plus side, you'll now have a pocketful of ££ to either further fettle GAM (I'm sure Luke will be able to come up with some tasteful 'tuning' project) Although I dare say you already have another project idea that might be bubbling away at the back of your mind?? Good luck with a road trip with Bob, Cheers Steve Last edited by Steve 940; Aug 4th, 2022 at 20:54. |
