Default Insurers for 3rd car / limited use / relic from the past

Morning,

Been here before but just looking for recommendations for a insurer for a third car (an 850 T-5) which will get very little usage etc etc.

Currently have my XC70 and a V50 both insured on their own policies with Churchill and a year or so back, I insured a 3rd car (a 98 V70 T-5) with them o it's own policy with zero NCB for around £170.00. It was since sold but I let the policy mature, thus have 1yr NCB to use on its replacement.

Churchill, for some reason that they cannot explain... now want £493.00 to insure the 850 under the exact same circumstances as the previous V70 T-5, albeit with 1yrs NCB and that was even utilising their fabled but ultimately useless multi-car discounts etc.

So, now on the hunt for an insurer who'll be sympathetic towards the car and the situation... ie will consider the fact it's not a daily driver / I have other cars / maximum NCB (don't get me started on the utter nonsense that is only being able to use NCB on one car)

Tried Hagerty, better at £307.00 fully comp and awaiting the verdict from Chris Knott and a couple of others. Wouldn't entertain Adrian Flux, they burned their bridges with me a few years back.

Cheers

The supermarket type companies will always hook you in cheap on year one then increase it on year two, bypass the broker and try Aviva, LV and Admiral, I'd say the chasp you've spoken to ignored your small miles etc and just dumped you with a no bonus quote,

When I bought my car the dealer insisted I had to have a quote to insure it even though he knew I wasn't going to insure it with them, £1500 was the quote for an old phart with max bonus,

I know there's a thread dissing them but Flux is the type of broker who will specialise for your circumstances.

They do 'mirror' NCBs there, so if you have fallen out with them, find another provider that does the same.

Why not consider an agreed value policy. As it is a third car not in 'normal' daily use you should qualify. No claims bonus is not an issue and at least you would have the car insured for what it is truly worth.

Try RH Specialist insurance, they do agreed value, limited mileage policies on modern classics that are not daily drivers.

Had my Spitfire insured with them for 25 years, also both my Discovery 1's, Defender, and both my Mk 1 C70 T5's.

I had both my Bentley and Silver Cloud insured with RiH for over 40 years. When I came to insure the C70 on an agreed value policy I was met with a sniffy responce: that is not the type of car we cover. Over 40 years of continuous custom counted for nothing. I then got cover with Sterling.

I had hassle with an agreed value policy with Adrian Flux with a previous car, but hadn't really considered it for this one. However, just spoke to a lovely lady at Chris Knott who have come back with a competitive figure, fully comp and with an agreed value (subject to images / sanity check!) so it's looking promising thus far.

Not sure if my NCB was taken into consideration, I have 1yr I can use on this car but on other policies I have the maximum which they did ask about, but either way... a damn sight better than my current insurer and a much better package for a few quid more than the cheapest Compare the Market and such like quotes, none of which would even consider an agreed value.

Who knows, it might see the road before the year is up after all...

My classic policy through RH doesn't have a NCB discount as such, it doesn't generate NCB that you can transfer, the price is based solely on circumstances.

That's also the same for my horsebox policy with Flux.

I'm surprised RH didn't cover the other members C70, when I insured my first C70 with them in 2012 they said the would consider any modern/future classic over 10 years old as a second vehicle. I haven't insured any other classics with them since about 2017, so things may have changed.

I have been using the brokers A-Plan for a few years, including on my T5, which is hardly ever used now. After some very long winded phone conversations they normally seem to be able to get the costs down to something that feels proportionate to the vehicle and use.

For various reasons I've given up on the big independent insurers like Direct Line, Admiral etc.
