Default V70 163bhp 2.4d remap

Hi everyone

Following on from my last post I have the new 2008 model v70 and it's shocking on fuel 23mpg around town 30mpg on the motorway.

It is an auto and despite what people say about their mpg I'm more inclined to believe this is normal. The d5 police model averages 25mpg as well and that's on the motorway mainly.

So before I admit defeat and sell it has anyone had a remap? If so what power did you get and did it make a difference to mpg

Some claim 20-40% but I cannot believe that for a second 10% maybe

Really disappointed with this mpg but may go for a remap if it will improve more

Thanks
Russ

That surely can't be the MPG you'd expect from a diesel V70, it's a big car I know but it should surely return way better than that?
I have a 200BHP V40 T4 and average just over 30MPG and when I am working early starts, I don't hang around.
What is it's service history?

109k full service mainly at dealer. No faults on the ecu had it read today.

People say they get more but I'm doubtful, the more I read the more I think it's normal! It's a heavy car, big engine and an auto. Only just serviced last week

Www.fuelly.com which I always use and I have found it to be the most accurate for all the vehicles I have say the car averages 28mpg

In the other thread he states:
"All my driving is short trips under 40mph" and
"it's touched a M'way for 7 miles tops"

Based on this, a remap will make the square of 0 difference as the car probably never gets warmed up. He's comparing a 1.6, 4 cylinder diesel and a Mondeo (2.0 ? 4 cylinder diesel) to a 5 cylinder 2.4 litre boat engine. More cylinders and capacity = more fuel burned.

I get that but my mates does 37 around town and 45 on m way. It's a D5 model 163bhp though 3 years older

Amazing how it can be so different

We live 10 houses from each other and work 100 metres from each other

You're comparing apples and oranges.
Your mates 163PS D5 is Euro III, no DPF. Your 2008 2.4d 163PS is EU IV which has a DPF which really bu99ers up fuel consumption on Volvo 5 cylinder diesels.

I had a My04 euro 3 163 D5 V70SE and it returned 52mpg on a run and 40 mpg around town regularly but was manual so much better anyway.

As a comparison My MY08 Xc90 is Euro 4 D5 SE LUX 185 geartronic gives 28mpg avrg around town and 35mpg on a run if driven feather foot.

I dont know if its possible even but maybe a detune not a remap to Euro 3 spec may help your mpg...just a thought ....worth looking into maybe?

I know some of the engines in the Volvo range are detuned so it must be possible.
