Interesting. What obd adapter do you please piotrek?

Got an Xc70 with an alarm fault, wonder if it would show what or at least clear it.

d_aero - here is more info about ELM327. I use iCar3 Vgate:
https://www.carscanner.info/choosing-obdii-adapter/

Not sure about alarm fault, it probably cannot read/clear errors in all modules in the car.

To get DPF readings you should select your car profile in Car Scanner ELM OBD2:
Settings - Connection - Choose connection profile

My experience with an ELM 323 was that it only read a basic selection of engine codes and to access other systems a proprietary diagnostic from the car manufacturer was required.

Depends what app you use with it, and whether that app is properly configured to access sensor data.

With help from @piotrek I now have a properly configured version of the free Android Car Scanner app and have since successfully used it with my £2.60 ELM327 to read DPF and oil level sensor data.

The point that Tatsfield makes about other systems is quite correct and doesn't, "depend on what app you use with it".

ELM327 can read just 2 out of the potentially 20+ modules so just ECM and TCM.
The app you choose to pair it with is not going to suddenly give you access to CEM or BCM or CCM or SRS etc.

Can someone point me in the right direction to buy one of these, I have a Samsung S9 understand I would use the Bluetooth. So many to choose from just gets confusing. If someone who has one or can recommend a link from e-bay that would wonderful.

Many thanks

I just use the mini Bluetooth version 1.5

Can't recommend any particular model or seller as they are pretty much all the same in terms of reliability.

i.e. There's a high chance of getting a working one.

Thanks for this thread-I suspect I already know the answer to this, but will one ofthese wifi devices show any info about a parking sensor fault, or do I need VIDA DICE? Thanks for any help!

While there may be some reason to use one of these Bluetooth/ELM reader set ups to see a specific readout that it can provide that the car doesn't display, like perhaps oil pressure or coolant temperature, if you feel that you need to see this sort of data while driving, the only sure-fire way of reading all the car modules and their fault logs is by using VIDA/DiCE. Since this kit is astoundingly cheap for what it does, £100 will buy everything including an ancient laptop upon which to run it, there really doesn't seem to be much reason to try to avoid buying it. It's really like insisting on using a set of non metric spanners on your car when you could buy a full metric set for a reasonable sum of money.
