Default Understanding fuel trims

Hi all

I am trying to learn about fuel trims.

What are Bank 1 and Bank 2?
What are Upper Part Load and Lower Part Load?

Thanks
Steve

What engine is it on? On an in-line 4 cylinder it is 2 cylinders together like cylinder 1 and cylinder 4 is bank 1 or cylinder 1+ cylinder 2 or in a v6 engine bank one is cylinder 1+2+3 is bank 1 etc

Hi Fieldsy,

It is on a 1999 V70 (low pressure turbo) which is 5 cylinders.

Photo shows the trim values reported by the VIDA Dice diagnostic tool and I need help understanding it.

Thanks
Steve

OBD codes were invented by the Americans, who don't understand that there's anything other than a V8 configuration. Bank 1 and Bank 2 refer to the two "banks" or sides of a V8, or other V configuration. A four cylinder car is always Bank 1, as it doesn't have a Bank 2. Similarly with our 5-cylinder Volvos, all the data refers to Bank 1. Where Bank 2 is mentioned, the values are either default or zero, as there's no Bank 2 data in the ECU to report.

Just ignore anything that says Bank 2 and you'll be fine.

Cheers!

Hi Luxobarge,

OK thanks. Yes I was thinking it might be that.

Funny that those parameters are reported by Volvo's own VIDA Dice!
