Think that's pretty much the case. I've been told the engines don't really wear but the turbo and other ancillaries will obviously be better on a lower mileage car ( providing it's been looked after with regular oil changes etc )

What kind of mods are you intending on the car ?

the engine type is what you need to look at on the label on the timing cover B230FT is the higher boost

That's correct. What I'm saying is they will be advertised by the sellers ( on eBay etc) as turbo whether they are an LPT or HPT

Mileage is of not of great importance really with these cars but service history is. If it has done low miles but not been regularly serviced it is likely to have more issues than a mega miles car that has been well looked after.

Mine is just shy of 185k miles, done 16k miles in just over a year. I have seen them around with well over 200k miles and no engine issues. World's most travelled car is a P1800 with over 3 million miles on it, I have seen a 240 with 600k miles on the clock too.

If you are modifying it then it won't matter which one you get as the turbo is useless for big power, they start blowing hot about 12psi.

The vast majority of them seem to be LPT ones so just get a decent looked after one and you will be fine.

The key is the engine type on the timing cover of course ..

Ive run an lpt for 9 years and loved it to bits, being as its the low pressure jobby, yes, the engine was less stressed so fuel economy was good [not brilliant], the engine only got "boosted" when you revved it, so less loading than an HPT, which boosts all the time. if you get the chance....road test both before deciding.

Lots of people on here have modded LPT to over 300bhp
Just out of curiosity, is it just the actuator that is different? Are there other differences between the FT and FK, like the ECU? I'm thinking of grabbing a lower mileage turbo next time I'm at the scrap yard- I've had one go on an FT at 180k, and an FK at 160k, probably poor service historys etc. The FK came slightly modded- no CAT, Chipped, and MBC, so probably thrashed a bit before me (pre 80k). It had a bit of 'Turbo lag' which made it a pain when in traffic, so much so that I wound down the boost to nearer standard. And maybe the chipped aspect meant advanced ignition, which may have meant more unwelcome heat on an LPG car?
My current FK is at 140K, hence my thinking of having a spare turbo on the shelf (possibly rebuilt at leisure) , rather than an expensive reconditioning bill at short notice.
It's hard to remember, but I think I prefered the FT. Before the redblocks I had a 3 litre 960, which was fun, apart from the expense!

I thought there was a rule that HPTs have a turbo gauge, as well as the lower stabiliser on the radius arm mounts.

Unfortunately listing as a 'Turbo' is not a good guide as many non-"Turbo" models (LPT) are still listed as Turbo in ads.

Also IMO there is absolutely no benefit in an LPT. It is exactly the same as an HPT, the pressure and power is just limited to a lower level. No benefit in lag, mid range etc. The HPT just goes to 11.
Except I think the reason for the LPT was mainly longevity, less wear and tear. Not calling it a turbo may also have insurance benefits.
