The tailgate is plastic not fiberglass so all you would gain from this is some more plastic. If you just self tap in and use some sealant on both the holder and a dab on the screws it should stay tight just give it time to cure before driving.

No problem - it is actually a Volvo one and was not that simple to replace (this is my second one for the same reason as you - although I think mine is in the middle of a quarry somewhere !!). It will depending PRECISELY on what tow bar you have - I had to supply the part number of mine and it still didn't match the database as it was one number out of the nearest match. The part number of mine is: 8698 922. The ones listed were: "Protective cover for towbar, detachable part.no. 8698 921 and 8633 212: XC90 - 8671 045 If the car is equipped with a skidplate the protective cover, part.no. 8671 045, must be modified manually to fit" - which is what I had to do. It wasn't that expensive - £22 iirc - but I had a £10 dealer discount voucher which obviously helped. The dealer was more than happy to order it as a trial and error exercise as its quite common to get the wrong one because of the variety of bars available. Either way - start with the part number on the hitch and see what your Volvo dealer says. Cheers Ian. |

..btw - if you have a skid plate fitted - there is a moulding line on the inside of the cover which gives you the precise profile to cut it to....
