I don't know how to keep the audio coming out of the phone's own little speaker while plugged in via USB, sorry, but what I can say is that you ought to be getting audio via the car's speakers.

I do the same - regularly use nav apps on the phone (often Waze, but sometimes Google Maps or Apple Maps too) while simultaneously using the car's inbuilt nav - and I always have audio from the phone's nav app coming through the car speakers with all three pieces of software. And they auto-dip the music while a voice instruction is playing too.

If you're getting music from the phone fine then it's probably a setting on the phone - check you haven't turned off audio in the app by mistake. If you're not getting music coming through either then it's probably a setting in the car - there's a menu page with a list of volume sliders for various things, maybe try that?

Thanks - will have a play around with the car's audio settings.

The audio is fine from the phone but the moment I plug it in (not into the Car Play usb) it goes silent and from memory it doesn't override /dip the audio in the car (which might either be music from a radio station, or the Sensus navigation itself).

I've always been slightly rushed when trying to get this set up properly, so I'll spend a bit of time going through my steps when I'm next in the car.

Ah, ok, reading this I realise I omitted an important piece of information from my last post - I get the audio coming through the car speakers because I have the phone selected as the audio input in the media section.

If you have the phone plugged in but are listening to another input (FM, DAB, etc) then I think you probably won't be able to hear the phone and have it plugged in at the same time, but happy to be proved wrong.

Sorry for not being clear on that earlier.
