Thumbs up Soon to be new XC90 owner

Morning,

Hopefully this weekend I'll be ordering an XC90 R Design having negotiated what I think is a good price with our local dealer.

Before I sign on the dotted line I just want to make sure I haven't missed a must have option. Proposed spec:

XC90 R-Design D5 PowerPulse AWD
714 Osmium Grey
Winter Pack
Xenium Pack
Retractable Towbar
230v/150W 3 Pin Plug Socket in Centre Console
BLIS with Cross Traffic Alert and Rear Collision Mitigation
Smartphone Integration with 2 x USB/1 x Aux. Input

Had an extended test drive with a standard sprung car I thought it was perfectly acceptable so I don't think I need the air suspension. The only things I'm umming and arring about is the leather pack instrument panel, 4 zone climate & subwoofer. Are they worth while?

Also whats the deal with the media server?

The test drive was in a pre-power pulse car which was very slow accelerating pulling out of junctions. It could have been in ECO mode. The dealer said the new cars and dynamic mode make a significant difference?

Comments and suggestions greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Russ

Not sure what is included in UK packages/basic models but check for:

- Keyless drive
- Active High beam lights
- Parking camera
- Heated front window
- Heated steering wheel
- If you have kids the sun shades for the rear seats are a nice to have.

Having tested both, yes the powerpulse make the difference.
If you have the opportunity, try an xc90 with air suspension, IMO it is a completely different ride and confort.

The HUD is really worth having, I like it a lot.

When you say "instrument panel" do you mean the 12.3" driver display? If so that's a must have, but I'm not sure if it's standard on R-Design anyway, might well be.

360 camera is amazing but you have that with Xenium.

Illumination pack is also great, but again that might be standard on R-Design as well, not sure.

12.3" display comes standard with the R-Design as well as the tinted windows.

I have ordered the media server to go with TV, so it will be able to stream TV/Video/Music onto Tablets or Phones in the car. No-one on here has it yet I don't think as it is a MY2018 addition, but if they do, I'll be interested to hear real-life experiences!

I was going to go for Osmium Grey, but then I saw an Electric Silver XC90 R-Design in a local showroom and I just had to go for that instead. It looked absolutely stunning. If you are able to negotiate successfully, the difference in price will be negligent, rather than the standard £300 increase.

I am not aware that it is possible to have a car without keyless drive, perhaps you mean keyless entry.
The shades are nice, but they don't cover the whole of the window. I find the custom fit curtains
a better option although they can't be placed/removed quickly. But the also exist for the cargo area
and can be removed during the less warm seasons.
The heated front window also is nice, but can't be combined with the HUD.

Air suspension is nice to have with the tow hitch because you can raise and lower it under the drawbar, which means less twiddling with the jack. Whether you hitch up regularly enough to make the cost worthwhile is up to you.
Having had a lot of experience with air and hydraulic suspension on many cars, where it was standard fit, and considering that I don't intend to tow with the Volvo, I didn't go for air. Too much to go wrong long term and near zero residual value as a cost option if sold early.

I tow with my standard suspension Momentum and it is fine and capable of noseweight up to 140kgs. The power pulse engine is also powerful and pulls my caravan easy but it is only 1550kgs. The light checking system for the caravan which comes with the factory tow bar is clever as well. I too like the shadow tech lights etc.

I'm changing to a new T8 next week and have a 2000kg (max) Buccaneer caravan with about the same nose weight (130 - 140kg) so it's good to have the benefit of your experience - thanks!
