Default Swapping towbar from one V90 to another

I’m thinking about replacing my 2017 V90 D5 for a new V90 T4 (found a great lease deal). This raises two issues relating to towing for which I’d appreciate your views:

1) Assuming I can do the mechanical removal / refit of the dealer-fit retractable towbar from one car to the other, do I need someone in Volvo to make software changes, or does the car just configure itself? Any idea of the cost & whether this would just be on the new car, or on the outgoing car also? Would they even be prepared to do just the software on its own without having fitted the towbar?

2) The D5 AWD would clearly be the better towcar, but has anyone pulled with a T4 and found it lacking? Fairly hefty caravan (newish twin axle). I don’t tear about and figure I could live with with the reduced pulling power so long as it’s not dreadful. Anyone with any experience on this?

Yep you can swap the towbar over but you will need a software update and programming which is dealer only, and they may be cautious about doing that with a second hand unit.

Check also if you need to do a bumper cut (or cover one up)

If you are wanting to use the exiting electrical hardware you may need to have it unloaded from the exiting car before it can be loaded on to the new one.

I have a feeling that you will need the software on the previous vehicle also updated to accept that there is no longer a towbar fitted.
Two additional costs!
