Default How to release white petrol feed line clip

Hi,

I've recently bought an '06 V50 1.8 petrol (UK car) which is barely running - misfiring / running on 2 or 3 / limp mode etc.

Part of my attempt to fix it includes changing out what might be a blocked fuel filter. It seems the filter is actually in the tank, and may be part of the fuel pump - no external inline filters to be seen, despite lots of stuff saying it's inline.

Having found no handy pump-access hole under the back seat I'm currently removing the tank in order to take a look. I've got pretty much everything disconnected but am stumped by the 'white' fuel-supply clip / connector just at the front of the tank. It's the connector above the 'green' one. The Haynes manual says 'prise up the white clip' to release the connector an separate the lines.

I can't fathom how you'd do that. The white panel is sitting completely flush in a very close fitting clip. There's no access recess for a screwdriver etc to enable this prising up, and there's no access to the clip from above due to where it's located. It also can't be turned from what I can see.

Here's the clip below. Can anybody tell me please how I release this it?

Thanks!

Hi again,

I've managed to get a photo of this clip from a different / better angle. It's looking a little bit second hand. However, does anyone recognise this kind of fitting? Can anyone tell me what it's called or if there's a special tool needed to remove it?

Thanks

One of many types of fuel line retaining clips. The white bit needs to be pulled out. I did not use any special tool, just a small screwdriver (I have lot of access in my engine bay when replacing the fuel filter thou)

Thanks ukojesita

I did wind up trying just to lever the white clip out with a small screwdriver last night but wound up breaking it - it's quite fragile where the legs join the top. If anyone else is trying it, it seems you really need to be careful to keep both sides of the clip matched up in terms of progress towards coming out - actually needing to work both sides rather than just one and hoping that'll bring both sides out. I guess years of dirt and road grime wind up kind of sticking the clip in place. Decent access would have made all the difference!

So, need to find a replacement clip but at least the tank can come out now in order to get this AWOL fuel filter replaced!

Cheers,
Ewen
