Sounds like you've sold it to yourself.

I think your probably right, even the wife prefers it and she's not normally a car person, to her a cars a lump of metal that gets you from A to B, also she doesn't drive.
It's all hanging on that test drive tomorrow and also whether I want to save myself a few quid, well quite a few quid if I'm honest.
I'm still not a 100% sure which way to go with petrol/diesel thing. I'm basically a diesel man,, having been a HGV driver for 43 years and owning a diesel car since 1987 it's running through my veins.
I really would like some help with this. I think my dealer has a T5 V40 on the forcourt, a test drive with that might give me a bit of an idea I guess.

Regarding the comment about the height of the transmission tunnel and how a manual gearstick would 'fit', has it actually been confirmed there will be a manual XC90 ? You can't get a manual 90-series, and other manufacturers are starting to ditch them (example GLC).

With the efficiency of most modern automatic boxes can't see manuals coming into ",prestige" cars. Even some sports cars don't offer manuals. AMG. Quadrifologio

I've sort of fell in love with the XC60 and I don't think any thing else is going to match up to it visually at least, but I do have a problem with buying an untried car, but then the mechanics of the XC are fairly well tried and tested by now, but there will be teething problems no doubt.
Someone mentioned that the XC is going into the price bracket of the Porsche and they are right, but servicing costs are in a different league, then you've got to find a dealer close to you, I don't want to be travelling miles away for service repair, I'm also looking for comfort not out right performance, although I do like my BHP hence why I'm looking at the D5 over D4, not totally out ruled the petrol yet though.
I am trying to think this through a lot more than when I ran Peugeot's, more money involved.
But I'm sure you are right about the interest in my up and coming test drives.
Bobby
I think we are both in the same dilemma and share a lot of common thinking in that we both:
1. Are retired with purchases being our own expense hence are not so concerned with recent HMRC changes
2. Do relatively low mileages hence "should" be now looking at Petrol as the additional mpg will be pretty insignificant to us
3. Like our high spec models with lots of toys
4. Need that bit of extra power from our D5's hence the Polestar option

So over recent months I have been thinking about my next car purchase and like you have/are looking at alternatives including a test drive in the F-Pace but nothing had the incredible design build and comfort of the XC60, hence my decision will be to upgrade to the new XC60 (this will be my 3rd XC60).
I will definitely be going back to Petrol now that a decent T5 is back in the UK model range.
But the only undecided factor will be WHEN.....???

Again like you I am sometimes impulsive but not at the expense of costing me mega additional £££'s, hence I will be holding off for say 12 months with my reasoning being:
1. Any new Car just released can command a premium price which in the XC60's case is a minimum of 10%. With my existing XC60 being only 2 years old and purchased with c20% off list the cost today to change on a £58k list car will be a minimum of an additional £10k v changing in 12 months time. Discounts will appear in 2018 as the initial surge of sales slow down, just look at the latest DTD discounts on the XC90. Also the Brexit factor will reduce demand sooner than expected which will open up dealers to discounting in 2018.
2. Having witnessed all the teething problems with the launch of the XC90, I told myself never to be the 1st in with the latest tech, so whilst a lot but "not all" of the tech is a c/f from the XC90 which is now bedded in there will still be much change in the implementation of that same tech into the XC60.
3. There are several trim options that are not yet available on the XC60 purely because being a new model built on a new production line in a new factory any sensible manufacture would want to limit unnecessary complications (read too many trim options....) in the early start up period of a new car's launch.
4. Also being a petrol head I am quietly hoping that the updated specifications for 2018 will include the supercharged T6 which is available almost everywhere else in the world but not in the UK!
5. Finally being now retired, I know that what I spend on my car is coming from a diminishing pension pot so whilst i will go and see the latest XC60 when its in my local dealer, I am going in the knowledge that my upgrade will be next year when discounts will be available, teething troubles all sorted, an improved specification options list, etc

Hope my thoughts and reasoning are of value.

But if you are Arianne then all the above goes out ot the window as being Car less after rejecting his new F-Pace - his dealer will be wanting to help him as much as possible..........

Make sure you give the XC60 a good test on poor road surfaces. Still complaints of droning on the XC90/V90 forum. Will be interesting to see if Volvo have dealt with this with the XC60.

Any thoughts and comments are of value, thank you for yours.
Back in 2002 I bought one of the 1st Peugeot 307,s, I remember sitting in it for the 1st time, getting out and shutting the door and the rubbing strip promptly fell to the ground. Not a good start to a new car, Peugeot were prompt with a mod on the strip and it never fell off again. The only other problem I had was with the central locking, again a quick fix and 3 more 307,s later the only problem with one of them was a handbrake switch.
That 1st 307 was my last new car and I have always said I wouldn't buy a new car again. But I do like to keep my car's in warranty, hence the reason for my looking for a change and knowing that the new XC60 would not be available until the end of the year I decided to start looking.
Sometimes I think just keep running what I have, it will work out cheaper in the long run, but then I think well this could be my last so why not buy a car and spec it to what I want and hopefully enjoy it.(But I don't want to regret it)
If I decide it's the Skoda Kodiaq for me, then I would go for ex demo,
I really am in a bit of a turmoil at the moment, I haven't really had this problem before because of my loyalty to Peugeot.
My other selfish view is that you can't take it with you when you die and that our kids won't have any trouble spending it when we're gone.
So please help me, by keeping your comments and views coming.

This is the reason I want the smaller wheels, but it does look as though I will be stuck with the 19" diamond cut because of the spec I would want.I suppose I could buy an additional set of 18" wheels but the brake discs on the Inscription are huge so not sure that would work,

Not sure if you've covered this, but what is wrong with the your 2015 XC60 that you feel and urgent need to upgrade right now? Give it 6-12 months and see how things look then?
