V40 factory fit bifuel filters
I have seen various posts suggesting changing/cleaning gas filters. My dealer has also suggested I do this. Can anyone tell me how to go about doing this and where on the car I will find them? Haynes doesn't cover bifuel cars. Anyone know where I might find a manual which includes bifuel models?

As far as I'm aware there isn't any literature that covers the bi fuel. The volvo dealers don't know to much either. The inline filter is located near the gas distributer, best bet is to take it to an lpg specialist. It won't cost too much to change ether

Rich thanks. Do you think that could cure the stuttering rather than replacing stepper. Mind you if it does not cost much, its worth a try

With the engine cold and turned off you could replace the inline filter with one of these http://www.autogasshop.co.uk/tartari...ilter-18-p.asp when you undo the jubilee clip you will get a limited escape of gas - please do not smoke while you do it!
Not too expensive or difficult. |

A further thought if you have some rough running and maybe an engine management light on when running on gas I can throughly recommend the following procedure which I performed without problem on my wifes S80 factory bifuel - has run brilliantly and smoothly for the last 2000 miles since I did it:
Before you strip down the distributor can I suggest you try the following: buy a bottle of injector cleaner, disconnect the distributor feed gas tube from the filter - there will be a small escape of gas, do not smoke when doing this, probably best done with a cold engine. Pour half the can of injector cleaner into the tube, then reconnect. Start the engine on petrol, switch to gas and stop the engine as it splutters with the injector cleaner going into it. Leave to soak for an hour or so or even overnight, restart the engine on petrol then switch to gas - it may stall and you may have to repeat this a couple of times until all the cleaner has cleared and the flow of gas been re-established. I have just followed this procedure on my S80 factory bifuel with astonishing and pleasing results - it runs more smoothly now than it has since I bought it in Feb. Without the time and aggro of removing the distributor. I think this procedure both cleans and lubricates the unit from the inside. |
