Can a good volvo specialiat not do updates as part of a service or does a main dealer only have access?

What is in the updates? as any major change would surely require an addition to the owners handbook? If the changes are so small that they do not need to be described to the driver/owner are they really that important?

Other software upgrades suggested are the sensitivity of the City Safe collision system.

Think only Volvo dealers have access to Volvo updates.

We use an Independent Volvo specialist. The sort where you can speak to the Honcho on an informal basis.
Their labour rates are more reasonable, and they will get a specialist to do anything they can't- this is routinely done by lots of specialist type garages. I would be very very wary of main dealers. I have friends with other cars, the German kind, the stories I hear are literally insane. And their reliability is highly dubious to say the least. My father and our extended family have run lots of various cars over the years into stupid mileages and we have a relative to runs a specialist garage, too. Generally speaking, provided you get things serviced properly and looked after by a man who knows the brand (most specialist garages employ former dealership staff) you will be very unlikely to have a dreaded failure of which you read on forums everywhere. |

Many will have taken advantage of 3 or 5 year service plans from the original purchase: I will be using main dealer for that period clearly.
That said, Leicester has a good independent Volvo specialist that I would not hesitate to use if out of warranty. A good main dealer may have cheaper rates for older cars as well..... But older cars we have I get serviced by a small workshop nearby - someone I trust with all things car - no specialist volvo tools, but we have an older family Fiesta he does all the work on....

I have just taken out a Volvo service plan...after getting a quote on the volvo website: https://securewww.volvocars.com/uk/o...-service-plans, I was expecting the same price, however they were almost £15 per month cheaper...so I'm happy paying my £18.99 per month for 3 years.
