C70 starting problem - please help!
Hi,
After taking my 2001 Volvo C70 to 3 different mechanics and they couldn't help because 'nothing was coming up on the computer'... honestly.. I decided to ask here. Please can someone shed a light? Intermittent starting, sometimes starts no problem, other times starts after the 3rd go. It cranks up but then dies straight after. When it starts up on 3rd or 4th attempt, it goes like a dream. Then I stop for petrol, repeat above. Intermittent, nothing consistent. Can anyone help at all?? Thanks Roxy Last edited by RA257; May 12th, 2017 at 20:15. Reason: Additional points remembered |

Perhaps others more knowledgeable than me will come up with another idea, but could this be anything to do with the immobiliser ring around the ignition switch not picking up the signal from the transponder in the key?

Thank you, I have heard that before. I'll look into it further. Thanks very much.

I had exactly the same problem with my 2001 C70 Cabrio back in February when annual service was due.
I found that when turning the ignition on, the red LED on the dash would rapid flash for about 30 seconds, once it stopped the engine would fire-up. End of March had annual service done by my local Volvo main dealer, no more flashing LED and the engine fires up immediately. Burgess |

Sounds like the antenna ring.
Common issue, easy DIY 10 minute repair. There are videos on youtube that show you how to do it. 'Robert DIY' is probably the easiest and best one to follow. (Basically using a T25 uncrew the steering column cowling, unplug the old antenna ring from the ignition barrel, plug in the new one, refit cowling - it really is that simple!) Part is approximately £35 from Volvo. (If you use FRF Volvo you get a club discount). Had this happen on all of my Volvo's. In one case I went through 4 antenna rings in the space of a year on one of them, must have been a dodgy batch at the factory. I now always keep 1 spare.

C70 starting problem

This will be too late for you but after 12 years of the same intermittent issue with my 2004 c70 I think I have cracked it! It is the immobiliser wrongly kicking in when the boot is or has been deadlocked! I’m not sure yet of the combination that effectively resets the error but once it stops doing it never deadlock the boot with the key and you won’t have the problem again! |
