I would have bought a V90 earlier this year if there was a T4/T5 option. Lovely car, but I don't want another diesel. Cost them a sale, but saved me money.

I'm not surprised after the recent poor publicity. Yet that means there is far less need to legislate on the subject because the mere publicity puts potential customers off diesel engine cars in droves.

Well I will be replacing my v70 175 d5 with another d5 later this year. I don't live anywhere near a city, I tow a large caravan, and I like my mpg 👍

Having driven trucks for 30 years and watched the price of diesel move from around 25% less than petrol to 10% more, and the move of the general public from petrol to diesel cars in pursuit of economy that many probably never realise, I get the impression that the petrol/diesel issue is driven by a lot of populist pseudo science in the media and the governments desire to be seen to be 'doing something'. As such the future of any method of propulsion is very much open to guesses, if the media turn against batteries for instance on the grounds that lead or lithium is a 'dangerous' chemical, then electric cars will become the pariah.

Not so long ago 4x4's were the Devils jalopy and now there's loads of em about, even more than ever it seems. I was driving around in a Discovery when the guns were turned on 4x4's and the media plus some vandalising little sods waged war on anyone who owned on. Now it's Diesel owners now, makes you wonder how long it's going to be before spotlight moves on and the whole Diesel thing is forgotten and it's business as usual. I'm planning on buying a V60 CC soon which will have the latest generation of Diesel engine in it unless there's a petrol version available.
It'll be interesting to see how this pans out.

It's a dilemma. I really want a 1.9D v40 to benefit from the superior MPG over my 1.8 Petrol V40, but have pretty much decided to stick to petrol cars.
I think over the next few years the cost of Diesel will slowly be increased, annual vehicle tax will slowly be increased and the list of Cities you won't be able to drive to in a diesel car will get longer and longer. I would only go into a 2nd hand Diesel purchase today, if I was happy that I probably would never be able to sell the car on, I would be its last owner, and that my fuel and tax costs would increase markedly over the next 5 years. It is quite a reversal, only a few years ago I was purchasing petrol S60s and V40s because they were cheaper than the more fuel efficient Diesel models that everyone wanted, including me. I now have a petrol 1.8 that is in more demand than equivalent 1.9D.
