2011 swirl flap arm cheap fix help
Hello,
My swirl flap arm has broken today and fell into the engine bay without any hope of recovering it. I'm attempting a cheapo repair by securing a wire-tie to both ends of the ball joints (servo and flap valve). So far it works almost perfectly. My only concern is I don't have the exact length of the original arm to replicate it exactly. Can anybody kind enough to provide the measurement from one hole to the other hole of the arm? My arm is the type with holes at both ends, not the type with one hole and one ball joint. Many thanks! |

In my country, it cost a bomb unfortunately. Anyway, do you have the measurement? Really appreciate it.

I know you have lost your swirl arm, just wanted to share with you all.
Have a S60 D5 which has cover 217.00 miles. The plastic socket end kept unclipping away from the metal ball joint. pushed it on a couple of times do a few miles then off it pops off. So what I did was removed the arm and warm the plastic socket that was a worn a little with a heat gun to soften then nipped it in the vice a little then allowed to cool this then forms into a new sort of shape. (Don't go mad as this will be to tight on the ball joint. Now when pushing the plastic socket onto the metal ball joint this is now harder to push on feels more of a snug fit. Now have done just over 4000 miles and still in place so its worth a try it worked for me. |

So I finally bought a new one because I don't have the dimension. It measures exactly 8cm, or basically when the engine is off the servo arm pushes the swirl flap level all the way through.
I'm not too convinced that the new arm will hold in place. It seems to be quite loose at the flap end connection (just like Stephen2015 mentioned). I doubt it will last long. If it falls apart again, I will use some piano wire as a substitute or the heat gun method. |

I've just bought a new arm but its fallen off within miles. When you say you 'rotated it', do you mean swapped ends with the motor end to the engine end, or just turned it 'over' so you used the opposite side of the arm (i.e. the back of the £5 note instead of the front !, if you get what I mean) Im hoping that sorts me out until the new year when I do a strip down and replace the full flaps. yes I used the opposite side of the ball joint (use pliers to squeeze it on as its very tight going on the wrong way round), I didn't swap it end to end, if that makes sense, actually it fell off last week, worn out , so I fitted a new one, I can live with that every 18 months or so
