Does anyone else have drivers of new Diesel Mercs/BMW's try to keep up with your progress and then sort of back off and hide away with embarrassment? happens to me regularly, I think they can't quite believe how a 14 year old car is able to do it
Yep, every day :} 2018 CLS closing onto my bumper in a "get out of the way grandpa in 05' estate" fashion and then struggling to catch up... yes... nice feeling... :}

It's impressive how easily these cars pull away from a set of lights with minimal accelerator input.

There are times where I gently pull away from the traffic lights, then look in the rear view mirror and everybody else is really far back.....yet I wasn't even trying.

They definitely punch above their weight at road legal speeds. I guess the small turbo just hampers the top end shove... It'll get there but just takes a while.

Gents I've just returned from a road trip to Bavaria: managed 130mph on an unrestricted autobahn (satnav reading) but then backed off as I was approaching other cars... That aside I did a few good stints between 100-120, and the car handled the pace really well. Such a pleasure to drive at a pace that feels right and to not worry about breaking the law.

at 130 I reckon you still had a lot of spare room under right pedal

Possibly but I had to back off

I wish I tried a few more 'spirited' runs now!

Spot on! that's exactly what I experience, it must be because maximum torque is delivered at 1500 rpm.

Also I notice you can achieve impressive progress by using only small throttle inputs rather then gunning it and dragging out the revs, it doesn't seem to make much difference how you drive it.

yes, its almost like it accelerates better with throttle 50% than 100%.

On stock T5 though the max usable rev@5200 is way too low, once you get that extra 1300rpm fo your disposal after s1 you will never look back

Yes, I find it lacks top end grunt on my standard T5. Scared to map it as some report that they then need a new clutch or driveshafts... don't fancy those bills on top of a remap!

Nah, its not that scary, seriously. You do put a bit more strain on components - yes, but not on day-to-day use. Doing catapult-starts on daily basis can wear down those components even on stock map, so its not like you will immediately break something. Remap is well worth it, its not even about the power - car feels just ... alive
