Several governments across Europe have done just that. In Sweden it has only become mandatory in recent years. People moan, of course, but you want to drive, these are the rules. Same as insurance and tax I guess.

I for one think it may be one day a mandatory requirement in several north european countries incl the UK.

yeah sorry by governments - i meant whichever government gets into power here in May. "government taxes the poor by introducing mandatory tyre change". won't happen for any time soon.

if these last two winters become more common, though, it may be necessary - but at the moment i think most people don't even realise tyres play any part at all.

I've already posted on the forum about how disappointed I am with the P Zero Rosso tyres on my XC60.

I have been stuck already on a number of occasions, even on the slightest of inclines. Rather embarrassing really as other cars were moving without too much trouble. I have no confidence taking the car our in the snow now fully expecting to get stuck again.

They actually make the car feel dangerous in the snow and ice and is a huge problem in my opinion. I also think they loose traction far too easily in dry and wet roads which has meant that I've already needed to change the front tyres after 9000k!!! I don't drive like an idiot either and that amount of tyre wear is ridiculous.

I've moved to Michelin tyres but my wheels have been rotated so can't say what they will be like on the front yet.

I drive the XC60 DRIVe by the way so only have front wheel drive. It's a shame, as crap tyre choice by Volvo spoil a otherwise perfect car for me.
