XC60 Winter Tyres

Thinking ahead as I do !

Can anyone recommend good winter tyres for an XC60 AWD for use in the UK ... not particularly for snow but general cold/wet/icy/slush type winters we tend to get in southern UK.

Ive managed to secure a second set of alloys at a bargain price and was considering putting a winter set on them.... also any thoughts on buying winter tyres out of season whether there is any saving to be made ?

In Swedish tests, the Nokian tyre came out tops.

This is what I'll go for next time round.

Hi,

I used to run Pirelli Scorpion which were M&S rated and were suitable for a fair depth of snow. Only got stuck once, and by dropping the tyre pressure got out no problem. The car did have onboard compressor so this made it easier..

interested to know how much you paid for your rims, PM please if you'd rather not share openly. My XC60 is due in 10 days and already planning ahead as you have!

extra rims would be the best option - but i bet they're gonna be reasonably expensive - £300-400+

see what your local MOT place will charge you for changing the tyres - i was surprised when i asked... £4 per corner, plus an extra £3 per corner if you wanted them balanced.

So £56 per year - which isn't a horrendous expense. You'd need to keep the car for over 5 years before making your money back at that rate...
