Default Oil Level Check

MY17 XC60 D5 oil level check is always greyed out on my drivers display menu. using keyless drive where key is always kept in my pocket.

Tried with car started and with only start button pressed once without brake pedal but still greyed out. Any advice greatly received.

From the manual :

"The car
must have been driven approx. 30 km and
have been stationary for 2 hours with the
engine switched off and on level ground
before oil level indication is correct."

"If the right conditions for measuring the oil
level are not met (time after engine shutdown,
the car's inclination, outside temperature,
etc.) then the message Not
available will be shown. This does not
mean that there is something wrong in the
car's systems."

Are you following these directions ?

Edited to clarify that's from a MY2015 V60 manual, but assume the system is similar

Another thought, have you put the ignition into key position 2? All the warning lights should come on. I don' t have keyless so you may have to put the fob into the slot.

Took me a few attempts and manual reads until I found out the following - for keyless start there is a key position II that is NOT with the engine started and that enables the oil level check. To get to key position II insert key (or have in car if fully keyless), do NOT press brake or clutch and give a LONG press on the start/stop engine button and hey presto all warning lights come on and oil level now no longer greyed out! For further info refer to the Volvo manual or android/IOS app and go to "Key Positions - functions at different levels".

I will try the LONG press method shortly, sounds like the answer for getting to ignition key position 2 with keyless drive system, that was the bit that baffled me before!

Will update you all later.

Yes, the LONG press is the answer - works perfectly now and my oil level came up. Still can't find this anywhere in the manual but a big thank you for mentioning this.

It's in the section called Key Positions, see pages 83-84 in the 2017 XC60 manual

I've just gone through this too.
to put it clearly again for others going through the same thing, keep all feet off the peddles, put the key in the ignition, hold start button for a few seconds, then use the appropriate buttons on the left indicator
