Default 2016 D5 Turbo Whine Failure / No Warranty

Hi all

I have a 2016MY D5 (no PowerPulse) and it has developed a whiney type noise when accelerating which only occurs briefly at a certain rpm. The dealer has done an investigation and traced it to the turbo. Their suggestion is a replacement. The car is out of warranty but has only done 30,000 miles.

Does anyone have any experience with this kind of failure or what I might expect from Volvo UK - I don't feel I should be paying for a new turbo (quote is around £2k) on a 4 year old car.

Thanks in advance

Unlikely to replace under an expired warranty, however if you have full Volvo dealer service history may be worth seeking a goodwill contribution from Volvo UK via your dealer. I was successful with this route re a manual gearbox replacement in series 1 V70 2.5T at similar age/miles (albeit some years ago I admit!). My contribution was limited to 25% of parts cost. Good luck!

Thanks for the input. Volvo UK have now offered to meet 40% of the replacement cost (parts and labour)
