Hi B,

Yes, but going straight up 70MPH from cold is in my book not showing mechanical sympathy.

My personal mantra for any car is to keep the revs as low as practical when the engine is cold and to only use the heater once it has definitely warmed up. With my BMW I never turn the heating/A/C on until the gauge is halfway to normal which can be miserable on cold Winters mornings. One of my first questions, when we looked at the Volvo, was where was the temperature gauge. Shock and horror ensued so my profile setting is to start with Climate Off. My wife's opinion is that it's Swedish and should be OK from the start. Hmmm! (I do have a mechanical background of sorts and believe in mechanical sympathy)

I appreciate that none of this addresses the OPs query.

I don’t know why you bother turning the Climate off.

The car will prioritise heat to the engine, before the cabin, automatically.

The only work you should ever have to do, is to press the max boost button, to clear a foggy windscreen. Just set it to Auto and relax.

It could actually be the kindest thing - gets everything up to operating temperature quickly, minimising the time spent cold and out of normal tolerances.

Obviously not if you are doing it by redlining each gear I'm talking about smoth gentle accelleration.

I have 60 seconds at no more than 30mph to get to the dual carriage but when the car is changing gear at no more than 2500RPM usually and then cruising around 1800rpm, then I would say what it's doing isn't showing mechanical sympathy.

Anyway, unless you have a valuable high performance car, mechanical sympathy until the temps and pressures are up is a load of sympathy.
Once again, bloody computers
