I'm in agreement with post 7 and 10.

Take what you want out/off the car, weigh it in and buy another, it will be cheaper and you won't be driving round constantly worrying if the repair was good enough.

Personally I think it would take a lot more than £1500 to propery put it right.

Putting it on a jig is going to cost £500 minimum.

Bonnet is a few hundred, the hinges will probably have knackered the wings so another £100.

Headlights and indicators are going to be £300 for aftermarket jobs.

Foglights, if broke, are £115 EACH for aftermarket ones.

A new bumper is going to be about £200 and may need spraying to match it. Plus guides, arch liners and rivets which will be another £60.

Some welding may be required which doesn't come cheap as a proper job involves disconnecting every ECU/control module on the car, of which there are lots - engine, autobox?, SRS (Under centre console), ABS, ECC, Seats, Alarm/Immobilizer etc. Say £300

New rad, hoses probably required as well, is going to be at least £100, probably more like £150. Plus a bottle of volvo coolant at £35.

New A/C rad, plus hard lines and drier and regas is probably £200.

Engine air guide is £75.

New grille and grille bits will be about £100.

Headlight wiper motors secondhand are probably going to be £35 - £50 for a pair.

So with those I make that to be more than £1500 and that doesn't include any real labour, other than jig & welding, which will be considerable. And this assumes that the engine isn't fooked and none of the airbags have deployed (as airbags are a fortune to replace, typically £600 per module).

I would be surprised if your insurance company has not written it off and it does beg the question:

Why are you not claiming for this on your insurance? Regardless of who's fault the accident was.

Do you not have fully comp. cover?

@acshortt5, thank you for your comprehensive review here, much appreciated.

I actually acquired the vehicle from someone who did not have the time / patience to do the work.

I have phoned around for quotes to get most of the bits and discovered that, second hand, the parts will cost less than £500. No, the airbags didn't deploy and yes the engine starts and runs fine (although cuts out due to the air vacuum pipes being damaged) which was my major concern.

The bumper appears to be in fairly good condition and the fog lights don't seem to be affected by the impact. The hinges haven't even touched the wings and the only wing that might need replacing is the offside wing.

My initial view when I saw the vehicle was it is mainly cosmetic but now my main concern is around the crossmember and chassis. I will get a second expert opinion on this however.

Is your opinion still the same now ?

You really need to get a pro to have a good look at the car if you seriously want to repair it.

Personally I'd be binning the car and getting another but that's only my opinion. There are so many nice C70's out there to choose from.

If it was a rare car then I could maybe understand wanting to repair it.

I've just looked on autotrader and there are 457 C70's currently for sale, of which 59 are 2.4, starting at £895. You can even get a T5 for £990.

Why on earth are you taking this thing on? You are going to spend more than £900 repairing this thing. Weigh it in, for which you will get a bit of money £150 - £200. Add to that what you were going to spend on repairs and you should be able to get a much nicer C70 with tax and test from a 2nd hand car dealer which will then come with some protection against faults.

Ultimately it's up to you, I can only give you my 2p/advice but it's your decision on how to proceed.
