Default 225/45 vs 215/45s on 17x7.5 Comets

I've recently had the front wheels off my S70 for the first time, and have noticed that the tyres are rubbing on the inner plastic wheel arch liners. The wheels are 7.5" wide Comets and the tyres are 225/45x17s - so I reckon they've come off a C70.

I'd like to fit some narrower tyres to stop them rubbing the liners - is anyone running 215/45x17s or 215/50x17s on a phase 1 S/V70 - ***on 7.5 inch wide rims*** ???

I ask as I'd like to keep these wheels (they're in very good condition) and fit 215s on them, but if 215s will still rub, then I'll have to look at getting some 17x7 wheels instead.

Thanks as always

Have you got blue steering stops fitted on the wishbones?

Those wheels and tyre size should fit your car, have you checked to see if you have matching steering lock limiters? If your car was fitted with 16" rims from the factory, you may have incorrect limiters. Limiters for 17x7.5 wheels should be blue.

Magic, thanks.

Just checked, mine are white. Looks like it'll be an easy fix for a change - many thanks

Will stop it rubbing but will add 1.6m to your turning circle. Not sure if that bothers you or is a problem, but thought it was worth clarifying.

Thanks for that, very interesting.

The reason I asked is that apart from the liner rubbing, I have 2 slow punctures so am considering getting new tyres anyway... In which case I'll get some 215s instead

Thanks again

I had these (7.5 x 17) on my previous V70 and they royally fouled the rear arch liners ! Shame as they looked great.
I've got a picture of the damage somewhere.

Thanks XCR, I haven't checked the rears yet. As I'll be fully loaded from time to time (taxi for the parents & the inlaws) I think I'd better get some 215s!
