Default Sensus software licence number

I bought a S60 D4 (163) 2013, but is recognised like 2014 model by VIN. I just tried to make an maps update to my navigation, everything was fine, but in the final, he ask me about the license number key. I spoke with 5 different volvo dealers and i heard 8 kind of different explanations. Brindley volvo he ask me 100 pounds to make an " UPGRADE " even is just an update. Any one have the same kind of problem with...?!

Brindley Volvo are correct, there is a one time IAM update to enable USB updates on the earlier sensus systems.

Takes around an hour and as an indie Volvo garage we charge approx £100 to do it, once done you can update it for life free of charge.

Considering the update DVD's used to cost £140 plus Vat its not that bad

One thing I wouldn't do is book it in waiting though as I've done 3 of these recently and 2 of them ended up with an over night stay, one for 3 days,

Not all of them is a simple upgrade there can and is issue's and the recovery software takes times when it kills it

That is an explanation good for you, for me as an engineer with 5 years university in hardware computer science and 9 years experience in warranty computers services, is not. The usb is already enabled, he recognised he's software, he told me how much time is necessary to sort he's update( 2:51),you can not put in your usb stick any software and to be recognised by the system navigation with the right software, otherwise is no way to be asked about the license number. Is nothing what is necessary to be enabled. One more thing, I'm not ask them to do anything for me, just to provide me the license number, licence number already pay it by the old owner in the car price. So to ask money for my property ( licence number of the fitted software in my car)is a little bit strange.

Not quite correct. My understanding is that the old system has to be upgraded to the new 'free update' system and therefore the licence number is probably an unlock into the world of the new system. You are effectively paying for this licence number to enter the new system.

I'm afraid nothing i can say will satisfy you.

The website that issued the codes no longer works, it was open to abuse and anyone with 5 minutes could get a license key without paying. There is a software update that effectively bypasses the key, you can probably get the key for the version of the maps that are currently installed.

If you have the original receipt for the car that says it has annual updates for life for free i would suggest contacting Volvo customer care and ask what they can do for you, i may be wrong but i thought only cars equipped with sensus connect came with free lifetime updates.

I had mine done and I had to leave the car for a day and a half. Seems it doesn't always go smoothly. They eventually had to get it done remotely from Sweeden. Once it was done it was just a case of using the USB to update the maps. Some of the other options in mycar were different also.

Whilst your 5 years studying may have given you an understanding of computer science your 9 years in computer warranty doesn't appear to have provided you with the commercial knowledge required to understand why you need to pay for licence codes and the software that enables 'free' software updates.
