Tax disc holder with a wire?

I gave my car a full valet this weekend gone and have an annoying rattle coming from what I found was the tax disc holder. I replaced it with a standard everyday magnetic type but when I removed the old holder which is plastic that there was a cable or what looks like a cable connected to it that goes behind the dash somewhere. To eliminate any problems until I'm certain what it is and where its going I've simply moved it aside and stuck it to the side of the dashboard.
I know it sounds daft but have no clue??
Any ideas?

It will be a mobile phone aerial if there is a hands free installed or sat nav aerial.

That would make a lot of sense as there is a phone holder in the car still. I'm gathering it was a company/fleet car at some point in its life.

Could also be a tracker aerial or DAB radio aerial.
